Meals and Nutrition
Healthy Eating
We understand the important role we play in meeting the nutritional needs of children. Healthy eating is promoted through nutritious and appropriate food for each child. Children will be offered at least 50% of their recommended daily dietary intake while attending a full day of long day care at our centre.
Children are offered progressive meals/snacks or served their meals communally, sitting in low-chairs, at tables or picnicking in the yard. Bibs are provided for babies and toddlers.
Meal times are an important part of learning where children are encouraged to use their independence. Educators promote discussion about nutrition, healthy eating and culture with children amongst many other learning opportunities.
Menu
Our four-week menu is carefully planned to meet the nutritional needs of children. Using fresh produce, our qualified cook prepares the following meals on-site:
- Morning tea
- Lunch
- Afternoon tea
- Late snack
All allergies, intolerances and cultural requirements are catered for. The centre is nut-free and sugar is definitely a sometimes food.
The menu is displayed in the kitchen and in the children’s rooms for parents’ information.
