H1N1 Swine Flu Update

5.00pm Friday 5th June, 2009.

As you would be aware, a number of H1N1 Influenza (human swine flu) cases have been confirmed in children in Melbourne.

We are definitely open for business on Tuesday (Hooray) and look forward to welcoming you back to the centre.

At the time of writing this letter we have been officially informed of only two cases of H1N1 virus (swine flu) relating to children who attend the centre. Anecdotally we know of one case that the GP has confirmed with the family and a number of children who are displaying the symptoms outlined in the literature we have been provided with.

WHERE TO FROM HERE?

As the pandemic enters the new stage we do not envisage further DHS involvement. As always we will continue to maintain strict hygiene practices. Our policy around children needing to be collected if their temperature reaches 38 degrees or more will be strictly adhered to.

If you have concerns regarding your child's health please seek medical advice or contact the numbers available on our website.

If your child is unwell, please for the safety of everyone, keep them at home.

Currently our position around fees charged for the three day close down period is unclear; as parents will understand our priorities have lay elsewhere over this week. The majority of our staff were on full pay, not entitlements, during the closure. We have commenced discussions with DHS, DEECD & DEEWR in regards to additional funding as it was a departmental decision to close the centre under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. As soon as we are in receipt of a response we will advise families of the next steps. In the meantime, we will invoice as normal.

THANKS

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience and understanding around the recent events. Your support for all of us when you were dealing with your own concerns around your precious children illustrates what a truly amazing parent body we have.
