About us ...
Kensington Community Children's Co-operative is a parent-managed co-operative offering long day care and kindergarten. The service is provided for children from 0 - 6 years of age. We encourage families to participate in the Co-operative by offering skills, attending social events or joining the Board or one of the sub-committees. This web site will answer some of your questions about the Co-operative. If you have any comments or questions please contact the Co-ordinator or any Board member.
Guiding Vision
Our vision is for KCCC to be an innovative, quality children's service that plays an active part in our local community and is a happy place for children to be. We aim to provide a community based childcare service that encourages and supports parental involvement. The development of an innovative educational path for children in a secure and trusting environment is also part of the Centre's vision.
Our goals are to work towards and attain a service:
- that acknowledges and strives to meet the childcare needs of families in our community in a flexible and responsive manner
- that supports and encourages participation by parents and other relevant community members in its planning and operation
- where creativity and innovation are reflected in the programs
- where staff are committed to our vision, philosophy and goals and the provision of quality community based childcare and pre-school education in general
- where staff are encouraged to belong and work as a team
- that is inclusive of the total community
- that leads in the provision of quality children's services in the region
KCCC Management
The Centre is run by parent volunteers who comprise the Board of Management. The members of the committee are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.
The day-to-day running of the Centre is managed by a Co-ordinator who is selected by the Board.
The Board consists of 9 positions needed to fulfil the following roles, and/or responsibilities;
- Chairperson
- Treasurer
- Minutes Secretary
- Strategy, Planning & Policy
- Staffing
- Kindergarten & Education Programs
- Family Membership
- Fundraising
- Volunteers Co-ordinator
A sub-committee, once again comprised of parent volunteers supports each of these areas. Input from parents is always welcomed on these sub-committees.
The Board of Management and Committees
The Board of Management is responsible for the following;
- employment conditions and selection of staff
- ensuring that all our legal obligations are met
- the development and adoption of service policies
- the allocation of funds and the financial viability of the service
- entering into agreements with other appropriate organisations
The Board meets on the third Monday of every month. Parents are welcome to attend and raise issues for discussion. There are also a number of sub-committees which are made up of board members and other parents. The sub-committees currently in operation are;
- Staffing
- Programs and Education
- Finance
- Marketing and Member Relations
- Strategic Planning and Policy
Parent Participation
As a parent at KCCC you have a unique opportunity to improve the environment for your child's development and education, because parents run the centre, and plan its future.
As a Community Co-operative, managed by an elected and voluntary group of local people, we actively encourage parents to share their skills, knowledge and culture and become involved in:
- the overall management of the service (Board position)
- fund raising for improvements to the service
- general maintenance of the service and working bees.
- the development of our service philosophy, policies and objectives.
Kinder
The Co-operative's Kindergarten program offers a creative, educational and caring environment for children in their pre-school year. The program aims to challenge, promote self esteem and develop social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical skills to enable children to confidently and competently approach the next phase of their lives. A more detailed brochure is available from the office.
